Tapered bearings are used on front spindles because as the wheels pivot lateral thrust is created. Rear axle bearings are straight bearings because there have no lateral thrust because the rear wheels do not pivot. Being mower blade spindles are fixed position and do not pivot/turn I do not see the need to have tapered bearings on the spindles.
